Beef stew

A simple beef stew that can be prepared in 10 minutes or less. Put all the ingredients into a slow cooker in the morning and the stew is ready for your evening meal. The recipe makes enough for several meals.

Ingredients

3 pounds chuck pot roast
2 carrots sliced
1 parsnip sliced
1 stalk celery sliced
1 onion coarsely chopped
8 ounces mushrooms quartered
2 slices bacon chopped
Salt and black pepper
Herbs, mainly oregano for its healthful properties, also thyme, sage, or whatever’s at hand
2 cloves garlic chopped
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup wine
2 cups water

Instructions

Put the whole roast into the bottom of a slow cooker. Add the rest of the ingredients. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.
